With the New Year inevitably comes New Year’s Resolutions and ours not surprisingly all center around making our house feel more like a home. Before I start in on our 2014 goals; however, let’s do a quick wrap up of 2013 which was admittedly a big year for our family:
Rented out our first home:
Bought our dream home:
Renovated our kitchen:
Now that we are finally wrapping up the kitchen renovation and the family room makeover, we are excited to start 2014 by working on some of other more neglected rooms. Here’s a brief outline of our goals for the new year along with our tentative time table.
We starting off the year by tackling stage one of the foyer which will include a new paint job, white wainscoting, a new light fixture, as well as a DIY console table and decor.
Weather permitting, March will hopefully see us back outside where we will continue to tackle creating a green lawn as well as finally starting to work on our screened-in porch. The porch will get a nice bright coat of white paint, new screens and doors, a new fan, and hopefully a new tiled floor.
Warmer weather means gardening time! We will continue to tackle the front garden beds and hopefully get them planted out with perennials. The house will also get a thorough power washing.
The hot weather will probably send us back to hibernating inside, so I am hoping to tackle the kitchen stairs makeover and possibly some additional painting inside. We will be ripping up all of the carpet, refinishing the stair treads, and painting the balustrades.
Once the weather cools down enough to get back outside, we’d love to finally get started working on the portico for our front steps. Also, money permitting we are also hoping to replace all the windows on the front of the house (those storm windows are killing me).
Before the holidays set in I hope to finish the front stairs makeover. We’re using the kitchen stairs as our little experiment, so hopefully they turn out well. The stairs are the second and final stage of the foyer makeover.
As always stay tuned to see if we are able to stay on schedule as well as finish all of these projects by the end of the year. Oh, and before you think that our lives totally revolve around our house, one of goals is also to go to Europe in October for Cody’s 30th birthday!
