How to clean a sink may seem like a silly topic for a blog post; I mean even a young child can clean a sink. However, my concern with this post isn’t actually getting the sink clean, but is in getting it to look clean.  Anyone with a sink probably has scratches on the bottom of it, but if you have a white sink you’ve probably started to notice that those scratches are starting to collect dirt and turn a yellowish brown.  If you are like me you have probably scrubbed at the scratches in order to clean them already and you probably saw little change.

It winds up the answer to how to clean a sink and get rid of the scratches is simple: bleach. First, I clean the sink really well with soap and an abrasive sponge. Then, I take a specially designated toothbrush and clean around the drain and faucet. Next, rinse out the sink well and start filling it with hot water. While the sink is filling with water add 1/2 to 1 cup of bleach, then sit back and wait about an hour until the water cools.

Once the water has cooled to the touch remove your plug and rinse the sink out one more time. Voila! You’re done, and look how much better it looks! Of course, this doesn’t actually get rid of the scratches, just hides them. I find that I usually have to repeat this process about once a month. The cool thing is this also disinfects the whole sink!
